Seminis Abhilash Hybrid tomato seeds enable Shivpuri farmers to experience superior yields with high quality produce
~Over 200 farmers and retailers from the region participate in the Gurukulam event~
Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, May, 2016: Over 200 tomato growing farmers and seed retailers from Shivpuri and surrounding villages where tomato is grown extensively, gathered today to witness tomato yields from superior quality Seminis hybrid tomato seeds, Abhilash.
Introduced in the year 2011, Abhilash hybrid seeds are known for giving higher returns per acre to tomato growing farmers. Apart from the output, the Abhilash hybrid seeds have become synonymous with better quality produce that ensures a longer shelf life. Monsanto India also took this opportunity to introduce farmers to its Sitara Gold and other new & upcoming First Division Restitution (FDR) hybrids.
G C Shivkumar, Profit Centre Head, South & West, Monsanto India, said, “Since its introduction in 2011, Abhilash, has consistently received very positive response from our fellow tomato growing farmers. Farmers have consistently reported an excellent fruit setting, uniform fruit size over picking, heavy yield and good level of resistance against the disease Tolcv, compared to other hybrids available in market. Monsanto remains committed to enabling farmers to sow and yield better by providing them quality seeds along with technical know-how.”
Abhilash hybrid variety of seeds are known for their firmness and this has drastically brought down losses due to transportation. Farmers have also consistently reported heavy fruit setting, weighing between 90-100 grams, with a high yield over a period of time. In addition, Abhilash is also tolerant to frost and cold in extreme weather conditions.
Monsanto India has consistently taken efforts to educate vegetable farmers by providing them guidance on the best agronomic practices and pest and disease management practices thereby ensuring proper fertilisation for optimum yields.
Monsanto has seven R&D and breeding facilities for its Seminis® vegetable hybrid seeds across India, and is testing and introducing wider choices of hybrid vegetable seeds suited to diverse agronomic conditions to enable farmers to produce more and improve their lives.
